Mission
To enable university community to excel in providing social harmony by way of engagement in social, cultural activities and research and dissemination of knowledge in the areas of social harmony in order to promote national unity.
Social Harmony Policy Framework
- Social Harmony Policy of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL) seeks to create a framework that will guide the University in establishing the RUCSH, increasing capacity building, research output and other activities.
- The Policy establishes the basis for RUSL for cooperation with the UGC, the Government and society at large to promote harmony.
- This Policy applies to all members of the university, including students, employees, visitors, and any individuals regularly or temporarily employed, studying, living, visiting, conducting business, or having any official capacity at RUSL.
- This Policy also applies to off-campus conduct that is likely to have a substantial adverse effect on any member of the university community or the university.
Functions
The main functions of the Centre are any combination of those listed below depending on the context, priorities emphasis of the management committee (MC).
- Develop, adopt, refine, review and improve harmony policy.
- Introducing compulsory courses related to harmony including Out Bound Training (OBT) and awarding certificates, diploma and degree programs jointly with the respective faculties and departments of RUSL.
- Capacity building, research, workshops, conferences, publications, internship for undergraduates, peace building and youth empowerment activities.
- Celebrating national festivals such as Thai Pongal, Sinhala and Hindu New Year, Vesak, Ramazan, Deepavali, Christmas etc.
- Implementing youth exchange programs with host-family schemes.
- Hosting painting, art, cultural exhibitions, etc.
- Conducting national and international conferences on conflict, peace and harmony.
- Creating a trilingual journal to publish the findings of social harmony and peace research conducted by members of Sri Lankan Universities and at faculty level with involvement of students.
- Promote dancing, drama and music performances addressing harmony.
- Establishing Harmony Clubs.
- Providing opportunities to enable social harmony by way of holding events such as cultural festivals, fun activities, youth camps, multi-cultural events at both university and national level that will enable the youth to share experiences with other cultures and lifestyles.
- Organize any other activities relevant to social harmony and peace building.
