International Youth Day 2024 Student Convention

The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka proudly participated in the International Youth Day 2024 Student Convention held at the University of Vavuniya on the 12th and 13th of August 2024. This significant event, organized under the theme of youth empowerment, reconciliation, and sustainable development, brought together students and academics from across the country to engage in a series of insightful discussions and activities.
Representing Rajarata University were Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) GAS Ginigaddara, Senior Lecturer, Director of the Social Reconciliation Centre, Dr. JMSB Jayasundara, and Assistant Lecturer Mrs. ALW Manori Perera, along with a delegation of enthusiastic students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences.
The convention commenced with a vibrant array of activities, including a Yoga session at dawn, followed by a formal registration and welcome address. The opening ceremony featured speeches from key figures in Sri Lankan higher education, including Prof. A. Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, and Senior. Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of the University Grants Commission. Prof. (Mrs.) GAS Ginigaddara, Chairperson of CVCD, and the Vice Chancellor of Rajarata University, also delivered remarks, underscoring the importance of youth engagement in national development and social reconciliation.
Throughout the two-day event, participants from Rajarata University actively engaged in various sessions designed to foster leadership skills, cultural understanding, and collaborative efforts towards social harmony. Highlights included an interactive panel discussion on “The Role of Youth in the Development of Sri Lanka,” a drama on social cohesion, and a gallery walk showcasing youth-led initiatives.
