The University Social Reconciliation Centre hosted a poignant event that explored the power of poetry and music to foster understanding and harmony within the university community. The program, launched with the participation of Professor Sisira Kumara Bandaragama, brought together students and staff to celebrate diversity through the medium of performing arts.
The evening was a tribute to Bandaragama’s timeless songs, which have resonated with audiences for decades. His lyrics imbued with themes of social justice, human connection, and the pursuit of happiness, served as a powerful catalyst for reflection and dialogue. University students actively participated in the concert, sharing their musical talents and engaging in discussions with Bandaragama. The event offered a unique opportunity to connect on a personal level and appreciate the diverse perspectives that enrich our community.
Beyond his musical contributions, Bandaragama shared insights from his academic career, including his work as the Director of the E-medicine Centre at Queensland University. His experiences in Sri Lanka, the former Soviet Union, and Australia provided a valuable global perspective on social reconciliation and harmony. By immersing themselves in music, poetry, and thoughtful conversation, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the essential role of these elements in fostering a more cohesive and harmonious society.
