Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the National Intellectual Property Office (NIPO), successfully organized a one-day Intellectual Property-related workshop on November 21, 2023. The event, hosted by the University Business Linkage Cell, took place at the Faculty Board Room of the Faculty of Management Studies.

The primary objectives of the workshop were to enhance the awareness of university academics regarding different aspects of intellectual property rights and to sharpen their skills in the patenting procedure. The session covered crucial topics such as Introduction to Intellectual Property, Patenting Procedure, Drafting a Patent Application, Demonstrating Prior Art Searches, Completion of Patent Application Form, and the Importance of Commercializing Patented Research Outcomes.

Distinguished professionals and experts in the field served as resource persons for the workshop. Representing the NIPO Mrs. M.M.G.N.K. Abhayaruwan, Head of the Patent & Industrial Design Division and Ms. S.M.D.B.A. Mudalige participated as resource persons. Further, Mr. Famuyiwa, an IP and Intellectual Capital consultant from the United Kingdom, shared their valuable insights and expertise.
