“Varsity Battles Capital Market Quiz Competition” took place at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka on 24th May 2023. The event was jointly organized by the “Colombo Stock Exchange” and “Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka” in collaboration with the “University Business Linkage Cell” of the University.
The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka entered into a “Memorandum of Understanding” with the Colombo Stock Exchange through the University Business Linkage Cell during the second quarter of 2022 to promote education and research and improve industry practices. The quiz competition is an outcome of the MOU signed and many other events are scheduled for the year.
Parallel to the Varsity Battles a “Mini Career Fair” for undergraduate students was also organized by the Colombo Stock Exchange and Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka with the support of the “Career Guidance Unit” of the University. The career fair was enlightened with the presence of fifteen companies including Avon Pharmo Chem (Pvt) Limited, Adhitya Ayurveda (Pvt) Limited, Hatton National Bank PLC, Variosystems (Pvt) Limited, Sarath Group of Companies, Hotel Shalini, Waasala Leisure, Rajarata Hotel, Navesta pharmaceuticals, Fidenza (pvt) Limited, ACA Management (Pvt) Limited, A4 Villa, IFS, CodeGen, and Nestle Lanka.
Representing the Faculties, 13 teams competed with each other under the guidance of the Faculty University Business Linkage coordinators. The winning group and the 1st runner up group of the Varsity Battles Capital Market Quiz Competition represented Faculty of Applied Sciences and the 2nd runner up group represented Faculty of Management Studies. The winning group was awarded a cash price of Rs.75,000.00. All three-team got qualified to face the final Quiz competition which will be held in Colombo at the end of this year.
The event was graced by the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Mrs) Sanjeewanie Ginigaddara, Deans from all the Faculties, Director of University Business Linkage cell Dr. Manoj Samarathunga, Director of University Career Guidance Unit Dr. H.O Wijewardhane and other Academic and non-academic staff members of the University. The event was concluded with a music event with the participation of “Thaal” band.
