The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka has been working on beekeeping for the last decade involved teaching, research projects and extension programs to develop the sector and popularize technologies. An Apiary was established at the Rajarata university Mihintale premises on 26th August 2022 to provide the technologies for a wider community with the guidance of Prof. Sanjeewanie Ginigaddara, the Vice Chancellor of Sri Lanka. Bee hives were donated by Mr. Jagath Randeniya who is living in Germany which were developed for easy observation of the colonies and behaviur of the bees inside the colony. Beekeeping practices were demonstrated by Dr. Anura Sirisena from the Faculty of Agriculture. The Registrar, Librarian, Deans, Heads of the Departments, Executive staff, Non-academic staff and students also participated in this important event of the university. As per the expectation of the present Vice Chancellor of the university, the apiary of the university will be expanded further in the near future in order to conserve bees while popularizing beekeeping as an enterprise among the student community.
