The Second National Research Symposium on Social Sciences and Humanities (NRSSSH-2023), organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was successfully held on 31st October 2023, at the faculty premises. Prof. (Mrs.) GAS Ginigaddara, the Vice Chancellor of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, was the chief guest and Prof. Shirantha Heenkenda, the Dean of the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura participated physically as the Key note speaker to the inauguration ceremony of the symposium. Prof. DT Mendis, the Dean, faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and Prof. GVTV Weerasooriya, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, the Acting Librarian and the Senior Assistant Registrar of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities were among the distinguished invitees. All the heads of the departments, senior and junior academic staff members, non-academic staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, presenters and the undergraduates were among the gathering.
The sessions were conducted in both physical and online modes, facilitating 105 scholars to present their research abstracts in 20 parallel panels related to 08 separate subject fields such as Archelogy- History- Heritage Management, Languages- Literature-Culture, Environment-Geography-Development Studies, Technology- Innovations- Education etc. More than 60 expertise scholars from the state universities all over the country joined as reviewers to evaluate and maintain the quality of the research abstracts submitted to the symposium, 147 in number at the initial stage.
Dr. Tikiri Bandara Wijepala and Ms. Nimesha Dayarathne bore the office of symposium chair and the secretary respectively.
